Meet…Alyssa, Internal Area Sales Manager
Alyssa joined JLA as an Internal Area Sales Manager in June 2015, right after finishing university. While she was nervous at first about her first professional role, she quickly settled in and found that JLA gave her a chance to shine.
“Once you get to know people and the job, you realise that everyone is friendly and here to help – they want to see you succeed,” she says. “I’ve made friends for life working in the Contact Centre. I work with such a lovely team of internal and external sales managers.”
Overall, Alyssa thinks that JLA is a great place to work: “I’m five minutes from home, but I work in an office you’d expect to see in a city centre. I have an upbeat, fun and challenging role, and I get to watch as the company continues to grow and change. It’s great!”
Meet…George, Field Service Engineer
George joined JLA in August 2011 in our first intake of apprentice engineers, and is now a Field Service Engineer for the North East of England. “I didn’t realise how big JLA was when I joined the apprentice scheme,” he says. “It still amazes me today, as we just keep growing – which is great!”
For George, no two days are the same – he’s out on the road making sure that JLA customers can keep their businesses up and running. “It’s a challenge, but an exciting challenge,” says George. “I love the various situations I find myself in – I’m never bored. I get to drive around and help people out all over the region.”
“If you’re thinking about a career in service engineering, there really is no better place than JLA,” says George. “The training and support are second to none.”
Meet…Simon, Area Sales Manager
Simon started working as an Area Sales Manager for JLA in April 2014, and describes the target-driven, fast-paced nature of his role at the company as “hugely rewarding”. He visits countless customers across the north of England, getting them up and running with JLA’s unique service solutions, and meets with potential customers who are interested in how we can make it easier to run their businesses.
“If you’re prepared to work hard, you’ll reap the rewards,” he says. “It’s a great place to work and I get to meet people from all sorts of backgrounds, which I’ve always found interesting.”
Meet…Katie, Strategic Programme Manager
Katie has worked at JLA since January 2005. Over the course of more than 12 years with the company, she’s worked as an Internal Area Sales Manager, a Marketing Executive, a Group Product Manager and the Head of Catering before moving into her current role as Strategic Programme Manager.
Katie can personally attest to the company's rapid growth: “When I started, JLA was a family-run organisation with a fast-paced sales culture. Now, it's a nationwide business that will continue to be successful in growing existing and new product divisions.”
“What I like most about JLA is being part of a successful team and being able to make a difference on a weekly basis,” she says. “There’s no red tape or drawn-out processes to get things done. Ideas quickly become reality. If they work, you expand on them, and if not they become learning experiences for the next challenge.”
With the company continuing to grow and change, Katie would recommend JLA to anyone who’s looking for a challenging and exciting career: “If you want to make your mark, JLA is a brilliant place to join. Once you see how sophisticated our business model is and the level of success we’ve created, it’s really a no-brainer,” says Katie. “We’re constantly striving to achieve greater things and offer valuable propositions to our customers – and that drive creates a positive and rewarding company culture.”
Meet…Rhys, Head of Customer Success
Rhys joined JLA as our Head of Customer Success in September 2016, after more than 15 years in customer retention and relationship management roles at a leading insurance company.
“My first impressions of JLA were that it has a fast-paced company culture; it’s very entrepreneurial and agile in how it operates – I felt it was somewhere that I could make a difference,” says Rhys. “My first impressions still stand, but as I’ve settled in I’ve also realised that JLA has some really great people, as well as pockets of world-class capability. It makes selling washing machines genuinely exciting!”
“If you like to take initiative, and you love the idea of working in a genuinely agile, fast-paced business, you should come on in!”
Meet…Kate, Customer Contact Manager
A member of Team JLA since June 2016, Kate is our Customer Contact Manager, responsible for ensuring that we deliver consistently great customer experiences. Prior to her current role, she was a Customer Account Manager looking after a team of Operational Account Managers, but her work within the company has now expanded, which she enjoys.
Her first impression of JLA was that the company was “totally focussed on growth and on its customers,” and that while it was certainly fast-paced, the clear passion that JLA employees had for improving and growing the business makes it a great place to work.
Kate’s advice to anyone thinking about joining JLA is simple: “If you like a fast-paced environment and you want to work with great people in a growing business, do it – you will thrive!”
Meet…Andy, Facilities Manager
Andy first worked for JLA as a HGV driver from 1985 to 1989, and in 2004 he returned to JLA, becoming the Warehouse Manager. He’s now the Facilities Manager, ensuring that everything in our offices runs smoothly. He’s also one of the first people you’ll meet if you join Team JLA, as he joins in on the induction sessions with HR to help show new employees around the buildings.
“It’s been amazing to see how JLA has grown and changed, but it’s still got history,” says Andy. “There are people still working here from when I started working here the first time.”
Meet…Patrick and Imran, Finance Business Partners
Patrick joined JLA in July 2015 as a Finance Business Partner. “My job here is fast-paced, varied and interesting,” he says. “I like that you can be involved in making decisions that quickly come into practice and have an impact straight away.”
Imran has been part of Team JLA since October 2015. His role as Finance Business Partner is “challenging, dynamic and fulfilling,” especially as he’s now providing support for our new commercial heating division!
“I didn’t know much about JLA when I joined, just that it was well-recommended as a place to develop as a finance professional,” says Patrick. “Now I see that it’s a place to develop your career and that it has a creative, can-do culture across all its teams.”
“My first impression of JLA was that it was a quiet business in a quiet rural location. Now I see that it’s a fast-paced, dynamic company with national reach, and it’s all accomplished by great people working across different disciplines,” says Imran.
Imran adds: “I like that I’m not just seen as the ‘numbers guy’ within the organisation – I have the ability to influence decision making and projects through the analysis I produce. Everyone here is willing to challenge the status quo and try new things.”
To anyone thinking of joining Team JLA, Patrick says: “Go for it – it will push you and there’s never a dull moment!”
“If you’re looking for a company where you could make a noticeable impact straight away, where new ideas are always welcome, then JLA’s the correct company to join!” says Imran.
Meet…Kevin, Senior Credit Controller
Kevin joined JLA as a credit controller in December 2012 and now he works as one of the senior members of the team. He’s seen some of the incredible growth and rapid changes that the company has experienced over the years.
“When I started at JLA five years ago, it still felt a bit small to me – in the Credit Control team we were still using too many manual processes,” says Kevin. “That’s all changed – now we’re automating more of our credit control processes so that we can continue to provide our customers with great service.”
Kevin is positive about JLA and its future: “Join the team! It’s a really good company to work for. It has a friendly environment and it’s just a really rewarding place to work.”
Meet…Neil, Systems Developer
Neil joined JLA as a Systems Developer in April 2015, and works on developing new systems that help JLA improve its product and service offerings. “There’s never a point where I’m not challenged, and the job presents new tasks every day,” says Neil. “It’s demanding and eventful, but it’s also immensely rewarding.”
Neil’s direct involvement with changing and streamlining JLA’s processes means that he has a unique perspective on the company’s rapid growth. “It’s been amazing to see, and be part of, the progress that has been made in the last two years.”
Neil would recommend JLA to anyone who is looking for a career path that would provide unique challenges as well as rewards. “Work hard and you’ll enjoy being a part of this growing family,” he says.
Meet…Stephanie, Head of Legal
Stephanie joined JLA as our Head of Legal in July 2016 and describes her role as “challenging, unpredictable, and most of all rewarding.”
At first, Stephanie was unsure about making the move from a role in the City to JLA’s Head Office in Ripponden. “I was a little reticent about moving to a quiet Yorkshire village – I wondered if there would be enough going on to keep me interested,” she says.
JLA quickly exceeded her expectations: “We combine unparalleled industry and customer knowledge with a hungry ambition to grow and succeed,” says Stephanie. “I have opportunities, a great work-life balance and a great team of people to work with – plus I get to work in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside!”
Stephanie is positive that there’s something for everyone at our company: “If you like variety, growth, ambition and working at a fast pace, give JLA a chance!”
Meet…Andrew, Recruitment Manager
Andrew joined JLA in May 2016 as a Recruitment Manager, and was immediately impressed with the driven and highly-focused nature of the business. “I still believe that, but now I also know first-hand that there’s a real family feel around our offices,” he says.
“I’d been working for an agency recruiting people for JLA for two years before actually joining the company, so I knew how much opportunity there is here. When I was extended an offer to work here I nearly bit their hands off!” Andrew enjoys connecting people and bringing them into new and exciting careers with JLA. “Seeing people do well when I’ve placed them in a role is a big buzz for me – I find it fulfilling to match different people to different roles,” he says.
Andrew certainly has a busy job, but he wouldn’t prefer it any other way: “JLA is a fast-paced business, but it’s also a place where people can realise their full career potential,” he says. “I really enjoy it.”
