JLA Announces Launch of Medical Division

Ripponden-based JLA has today [22nd January 2013] launched a new medical division to capitalise on the UK care and healthcare industry’s growing requirement for more of its critical equipment, demonstrating the on-going growth of the West Yorkshire company.

The move to launch JLA Medical as a new sub-brand is expected to net the company more than £1 million in the next 12 months, capitalising on the company’s huge growth over the past year.

Stephen Baxter, CEO of JLA, said: “JLA Medical represents another big step forward for JLA in terms of our continuing commitment to meeting our customers’ needs and specific requirements. Following other recent advancements in warewashing and detergents provision, it further highlights our significant investment into product development and carefully planned expansion into new areas of commercial equipment supply and servicing.

“The decision to expand in this direction was borne from demand from our existing customers, who told us they wanted even more solutions to be made available as part of Total Care. As we have done with our laundry and warewashing equipment, they wanted us to help them improve efficiency in another key area of their organisations, and enable staff to carry out daily sluice room tasks quickly, hygienically and cost-effectively.”

Based at Meadowcroft Lane in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, JLA employs almost 450 people across its head office, engineering and field sales, and is currently recruiting for a number of roles across its departments.

The new JLA Medical range represents a huge expansion of its products in the care home and healthcare sector. The range includes a set of bedpan washer-disinfector and macerator products, specifically designed to maximise infection control and improve hygiene in care homes and hospitals, while making life easier for staff and operators.

JLA, which will celebrate its 40th year in business this year, has seen its growth strategy pay off over the past few years with turnover in 2011/12 at £62m. Mr Baxter expects the launch of JLA Medical to further boost the company’s economic profile, with hundreds of care homes expected to install the new products by the end of 2013.

“There are more than 22,000 care and nursing homes in the UK and our research tells us that many are still reliant on hand-sluicing and yellow waste bag collections when it comes to disposing of their incontinence and sanitary waste. These can be time-consuming, unreliable and unpleasant tasks, which is why we’ve developed easy-to-use machines that take the hassle and uncertainty out of the equation. With our efficient mechanical solutions, there is a real opportunity to increase our already unrivalled presence in the care home market as operators seek to streamline operations and minimise costs.”

As reinforcement of Mr Baxter’s assertion, JLA’s own research reveals that almost 60% of all care homes rely on hand-washing their bedpans and over 90% rely on yellow waste bags for their waste disposal. Using mechanical disposal could save care homes up to £4,000 per year.

JLA is the market-leader in commercial equipment and service provider for care, working with thousands of UK homes to supply and service critical operational processes with washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, detergents, bedpan washer disinfectors, macerators, compliance & safety checks and more.

Its unique, all-inclusive Total Care package offers customers machine supply, 7-day breakdown cover with no wear and tear clause, along with a 24/7 helpline. Available for a simple monthly payment, Total Care also includes an 8-working hour response guarantee, whereby customers are paid £100 if an engineer is not on-site in that time.
